In Five Found Dead, Sulari Gentill seats Meredith Penvale and her brother Joe on the Orient Express as it rolls out of Paris. A sudden quarantine locks the carriages, then a passenger vanishes, leaving a blood-smeared berth and a missing cabin key. Detectives on board circle with competing theories while silver cutlery rattles on linen and the snowline nears. Central tension: can the siblings unmask a killer in a sealed train before the next body turns up.
Gentill plays fair with clues, from a misplaced ticket wallet to a timetable in pencil, and lets Meredith’s sharp eye spar with Joe’s writerly hunches. The Italian Alps slide past the window, brakes sing on tight curves, and suspicion fogs like cold breath on glass. It is pacy, witty and human, with a train-set puzzle at its heart. Tropes: locked-train mystery, sibling sleuths.
