Icehouse formed in Sydney in 1977 as Flowers, releasing their self-titled debut in 1980 before renaming the band after its title track. Led by Iva Davies, they developed a sound that moved from new wave into polished atmospheric rock, and by the mid-1980s had built a substantial international following, particularly in Europe. Measure for Measure, released in 1986, was their fifth studio album and arrived at the height of their commercial reach.
