Is This It (2001) is the debut album from New York five-piece The Strokes. Released in August 2001, it made an immediate impact: NME named it their album of the year before it was officially released in the UK, and Rolling Stone placed it among the 500 greatest albums ever made. The record's economy is part of its power; eleven songs, none wasted, the whole thing done in half an hour. Last Nite and Someday are its standards, but the album holds up as a complete statement. A great deal of music has been called 'post-Strokes' since 2001; most of it doesn't sound as good as the thing it was named after.
