Mental As Anything - Surf & Mull & Sex & Fun: The Classic Recordings (2LP Black Vinyl)
- Colour
This is a 2LP black vinyl compilation of Mental As Anything's classic recordings, pressed on 140g vinyl. Twenty-six tracks across four sides, released on Universal Music (catalogue 7867299). The front cover illustration is by Reg Mombassa, the band's long-time visual collaborator.
Mental As Anything wrote songs that seem modest until you realise you've been singing them for forty years. 'If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too?' still sounds fresh and 'Live It Up' gets played at Australian parties without anyone needing to explain why. This collection covers their most celebrated years and works as an entry point for someone new to them or a solid shelf piece for a long-time fan. Sits comfortably alongside Split Enz or Paul Kelly for anyone who came to Australian music through the radio-pop end of the 80s.
