Buy Me a Pony reached number one in triple j's Hottest 100 of 1996, making Spiderbait the first Australian act to top that countdown. Calypso reached number 13 on the ARIA Singles Chart and later appeared in the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You. The album debuted at number three on the ARIA Albums Chart, reached 2 times platinum in Australia, and won the 1997 ARIA Award for Best Alternative Release.
