Folklore was made in six weeks during lockdown with producer Aaron Dessner (The National), the same producer behind Noah Kahan's Stick Season and The Great Divide. That lineage matters: this sounds nothing like Swift's previous pop production. It's patient, writing-first, small arrangement. exile (feat. Bon Iver) and cardigan are the obvious entry points, but the album holds across all sixteen tracks. For anyone who came to it as background music and wants to give it proper attention, vinyl is the right format for this one.

The In the Trees edition is the one to own: it has The Lakes and the full gatefold packaging with lyric inserts. The standard edition remains in print but doesn't include the bonus track.
