Tears For Fears - The Hurting (Half-Speed Master, 180g Vinyl LP)

This is the 2022 Mercury Records half-speed master of The Hurting, Tears For Fears' 1983 debut album. Cut at Abbey Road Studios by engineer Miles Showell at half the normal playback speed, on 180g black vinyl. Comes in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves, a printed insert, an obi strip, and a half-speed mastering certificate from Abbey Road.

The Hurting went to number one on the UK Albums Chart in its second week and produced Mad World, Change and Pale Shelter. The album is more sonically dense and emotionally direct than anything Tears For Fears made afterwards. The half-speed pressing is the reason to choose this edition: cutting at half-speed allows more precise groove cutting and is associated with significantly better high-frequency detail on playback. If you already own a standard reissue of this album, the Abbey Road half-speed is the upgrade. If you're buying it for the first time, this is the best available pressing.
