Acoustic Hits is the 2001 companion to The Cure's Greatest Hits compilation, eighteen acoustic reimaginations recorded at Olympic Studios in London during the same sessions. Stripped of the dense synth layers and signature production effects, these versions put Robert Smith's songwriting front and centre. For the 25th anniversary, Smith has gone back and remastered the whole collection himself.
Boys Don't Cry, A Forest, Just Like Heaven, Friday I'm In Love, Lullaby, Lovesong. The acoustic treatment finds new corners in songs that have been part of the radio furniture for forty years. Boys Don't Cry opens with a softer, more reflective tone. A Forest holds its tension without the driving rhythm. The vocal performances are worn-in and direct.
This is the Record Store Day 2026 exclusive, a 2LP set pressed on silver bio vinyl (a bioplastic alternative to standard PVC) by Rhino Records. Limited edition. £1 from every sale goes to War Child to support their humanitarian work.
