The Saints were one of the first punk bands to release their debut single independently, "(I'm) Stranded," in September 1976.  What makes this significant is that (I'm) Stranded came out months before The Sex Pistols' debut single, "Anarchy in the U.K.," which wasn’t released until November 1976. The Saints’ early move positioned them as pioneers of punk rock, even in an era dominated by UK and US punk bands.
