Collector Feature: Crates & Concerts with @anna_downunder
Vinyl collecting isn’t just about sound. It’s about stories. This month, we’re spotlighting Annalisa Lim, an Australian record lover whose shelves are stacked with music memories: from Cold Chisel signed by Barnesy, to singing Petula Clark in subway tunnels.
Anna’s collection is grounded in emotion, nostalgia, and a deep love for storytelling, especially when it comes to The Boss. Here’s a peek into what’s spinning at her place right now.
The First Record: Cold Chisel – East
“The first album I purchased was East by Cold Chisel. I still own it and a few years ago I got it signed by Jimmy Barnes. It’s travelled through every chapter of my life, so it holds real sentimental value.”
A Crate-Digging Moment Worth Keeping
“While holidaying in New York with my sister, every time we got on the subway we’d sing ‘Downtown’ by Petula Clark. A week later, we were crate-digging in San Francisco and spotted a ‘Best Of’ Petula Clark on vinyl. I had to have it!”
"I love record shopping when I travel. I’ve found some of my favourite albums that way. I even brought back 18 records from my last trip to America.”
On Curating Her Collection
Anna’s collection spans generations of female artists, from iconic legends to underrated favourites, and it’s something she’s always intentionally spotlighted.
“I’ve tried to include all my favourites across different eras and genres. It’s been such a great way to reflect on how many incredible women have shaped my listening over the years.”
That includes legends like Carole King and Petula Clark, as well as modern staples like Taylor Swift — whose Record Store Day release Annalisa proudly hunted down while record shopping in Paris.
Live Music is part of the Story
“I go to a lot of gigs — especially Aussie shows. Seeing Cold Chisel’s 50th Anniversary Tour last year was special. And in 2023, I saw Bruce Springsteen in Paris. That was truly magical.”
Why Bruce Springsteen Resonates
“I just love how Bruce tells a story through his lyrics. His ability to capture the universal human experience — it’s so relatable. His songs touch me in a way no other artist does.”
